Foals, Inspection Results Competition Results, Stallion News Stallion of the Year
Monette, Karen Batcheller's Hanoverian mare by Matcho delivered the first Classically-Sired foal for 2003 - a splendid chestnut Wolkenstein filly. She was born February 19 with a beautiful face with a large, soft eye, a well-proportioned body and great legs. Three excellent gaits and a confident manner complete the picture. Weltdancer (Wolkenstein II) followed soon after on February 24 with our first Alabaster foal - another wonderful filly. Born at Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll's well known farm in NC, the filly is pretty and feminine with a lovely face, nicely arched neck and straight legs.
On March 5, also at the Carroll's farm, our first colt was welcomed - a large black Escudo I colt out of EM Wieta (Wolkenstein II). The colt is strong, healthy and quite rambunctious with a handsome face. Our second Alabaster filly was born March 20 in TN for Maria Parr, out of her Hanoverian approved thoroughbred mare, Bow to the Queen. The elegant filly is a bay with no markings. Morgaine, Cindy King's Matcho mare, couldn't wait to meet her Werther son, delivering him 2 weeks early. And, no wonder, the strong, handsome chestnut colt sports 4 long stockings, a star and a snip. Fedora, aka Freddy, has that wonderful agile, effortless, easy movement we all love to see.
Our first DeNiro, a strapping black filly from Chris Skow's Elite Davignport mare, Dulany, entered the world on April 8 at the civilized hour of 10pm in Wisconsin. With 3 socks, a star and strip Devine is a real stunner! Kathleen Mobley's Elite Weltmeyer mare, Welterbin, produced her second Rotspon colt, a handsome dark chestnut with a blaze and 2 hind stockings on April 9. Rotsohn is inquisitive, spirited and proud. Weltano produced his first Classically-Sired foal - a gorgeous dark bay filly, long-legged and elegant with a beautiful face and topline for Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll (NC) on April 17. Closet Dancer xx, the Carroll's foundation mare is the proud mother. The same day John Gillien (CA) reported our first Don Primero birth - an incredibly elegant dark bay filly with the most amazing movement he has ever seen! The filly is out of the Elite mare, Shandra by Shogun xx. Nancy Schulba's Regazzona (full sister to Regazzoni) foaled a "most fantastic Wolkenstein II filly." She's chestnut with 3 whites and a beautiful big blaze. Nancy's Argentinus mare, Arianna, foaled her second Rotspon foal - this time a splendid bay colt with 3 whites, a beautiful blaze and a wonderful neck. Royal suits him perfectly!
May 1 brought our 2nd DeNiro foal - a strapping chestnut colt from Weltana (Weltmeyer) for Mari Dawley in VT. Weltana is a full-sister to the European Champion Mare, Wertvolle (Weltmeyer/Werther), so this colt carries some prodigious performance genes, including those of Donnerhall, Weltmeyer, Werther and Akzent. Manyi Yu reported a handsome light bay Grand Cru colt from her Pikadero mare, Pikante. Aragonia by Argentan gave birth to a happy, heathy dark bay filly by El Bundy for Jack and Cheryl Robinson (CA) on May 13. Classically-Sired EM Felina (Werther) foaled a super chestnut Longchamp filly on May 14 for Barbara Parkening (CA). The filly is beautiful - long-legged, elegant with a lovely face and Longchamp's "vanilla nose". Tracey Weyl (KY) reported a wonderful Alabaster filly, Amelia, from her Grusus mare, Goldilocks on May 18. The filly is large, uphill with a huge shoulder, gorgeous face and is very sweet. Renowned Victory is a stunning black Rotspon filly from Sarah Needham's Victory at Concord born 19 May. She has 4 white socks and a blaze! Leanna Diva, a black Latimer filly was born to the Diamont mare, Dulcena Diva for Carolyn Libby (OR). Carolyn says the filly has Latimer's legs, shoulder and beautiful head with her grandmother's ears. Julie Ballad Haralson's Prima Dona produced a perfect chestnut filly. The filly is "cute as a button" and moves "like you cannot believe". Pacifica foaled a beautiful, tall, leggy chestnut filly, Esperanza, who is quite the mover with alot of hock action by Escudo May 23 for John Gillien (CA). Also on May 23 Maxine Mickel of Marefield Meadows reported a bay Contendro colt from their Donaumonarch mare, Dezember. The colt got a bit of a rough start, but has made up for it with energy, determination and creativity! Maggi Clark's Eiger I mare, Einzig, foaled a dark bay colt by Rabino May 27, named Rattle N Hum (Hummer). Winfrey joins 3 talented full brothers by Wolkentanz out of Wichita for Kathy Meigs - finally a girl! Fancy Free, Kathy McClatchy's (ID) lovely mare, foaled a handsome, friendly chestnut Rotspon colt on May 30. He has a blaze, 2 left stockings and a spot of white on his lower lip. Elizabeth Haren (CO) reported a dark bay Laptop filly who is correct with a long neck, super conformation and moves like a dream.
Prolong foaled a dark bay Woronow colt for Kathy Hiney (CA) on June 3. The colt has 3 socks and a star and is "correct and healthy in every way" according to Kathy - plus he loves everyone! Damenwahl, Sue Ramey's Dueker mare, foaled a long-legged chestnut Rotspon filly June 8 in OR. Sue's thoroughbred mare, JK's Born to Shop gave birth to a charismatic chestnut colt, El Cid, by Escudo I. Deborah Stone reported a powerful chestnut colt by For Feeling from her Weltburger mare, Wakajama (MS).
July 1 brought a beautiful, personable black Espri filly from the Lanthan mare, Latanya for Judith Chapman (CA). Judy says the filly flops down in her stall so you can rub her belly.
Inspection Results:
Welttanzer (Weltmeyer/ EM Bewitched [Bolero]) was provisionally licensed at the ISR/Oldenburg Inspection in July. The magnificent chestnut stallion was bred by Karen Batcheller (OR) and is owned by Jane Epperson (OR). Congratulations!
War Cloud (Wolkentanz/ EM Ballonne [Bolero]) was provisionally licensed at the Hanoverian Inspection in California. The splendid chestnut stallion was bred by Marsha Anderson (OR). Congratulations!
Esperanza (Escudo/ PG Pacifica [Prinz Gaylord]) tied for Champion Filly at the Silverhorne Sporthorse Hanoverian Inspection in CA. The inspection team could find no faults in the charismatic chestnut filly, who was bred by John Gillien (CA).
Renowned Victory (Rotspon/ Victory at Concord [Egmont]) was named "Premium Foal" at the Oldenburg Inspection July 31. The lovely black filly was bred by Sarah Needham (VA).
Laurel (Londonderry/ Winterset [Weltmeyer]) was Champion Mare at the Stonecrop Hanoverian Inspection (NC) with an '8'! The elegant chestnut mare was bred by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll. The Carrolls also had the top filly, Arwyn (Alabaster/Weltdancer [Wolkenstein II]) and top colt, Edison (Escudo I/Wieta [Wolkenstein II]). Their mares: Rosalynd (Rotspon/ Wishes Granted [Wolkenstein II]), Wiesling (Wolkentanz/ Dividende [Domingo]), Wianna (Wolkenstein II/ Dom Perignom [Domingo]) and Reislan (Rotspon/ Dom Perignom [Domingo]) all qualified as Elite Hanoverian Mare Candidates by scoring at least 7 at the inspection. Reislan scored 7.5! She is owned by Dr. Ginny Brown (NC).
Waterlily (Wolkenstein II/ Daviera [Davignon]) was Champion Mare at the AHS Leatherdale Inspection in Minnesota. Doug and Louise Leatherdale are the owners/breeders of the lovely mare.
Under Saddle:
Whiz Kid (Werther/Lavender [Condus]) was Great American/USDF Champion Grand Prix Freestyle for Region II, and for the American Hanoverian Society. The great gray gelding was Reserve Champion in the Great American/USDF Grand Prix for Region II., and for AHS. Whiz is owned and ridden by Sue Madden Mandas (bred by Hilda Gurney). He also won a division of Grand Prix at Paxton Farm (OH) May 9-11 with a score of 62.33.
Wolkenspring (Wolkenstein II/ Dividende [Domingo]) qualified for USDF Regional Championships with a score of 65.833% and 2nd place in First Level Test 4. The gorgeous chestnut mare also scored 69.143 and 5th place in First Level Test 3 to qualify for the BLM championships. Wolkenspring placed 5th in the Great American/USDF First Level Open Championships in Region I.
Wolkentana (Wolkentana/ Dom Perignom [Domingo]) won the FEI Dressage Test for 5-year olds at Palm Beach FL Dressage Show with a score of 68.2 the last weekend of February. The talented chestnut mare was bred by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll, is owned by Dorothy Chappell and ridden by Jessie Steiner.
Wolkentana continues her winning ways with a first in 1st Level Test 1 (score 71.48), second in 1st Level Test 2 (score 73.824), and second in FEI Young Horse for 5-year Olds att at the Wellington Dressage Classic. At Dressage at Equestrian Estates March 28-30, the talented mare was second in 1st Level Test 3 with a score of 70.286. Whiz Kid (Werther/Lavender [Condus]), Windsor (Wanderer/ Julia's Easter), ridden by Stacey Schettkoe won Fourth Level Test 2 with 68.6% and Fourth Level Test 3 with 65.87% at Dressage at Latta April 5-6 (NC). Windsor is owned by Janet Sarn and was bred by Eleanor Eltoft (NC).
Western Prinz (Weltmeyer/ EM Femme Fatale [Wertherson]) won his large Training Level Test 3 Class at the VADA/NOVA Show in June. The stunning 4-year old black colt was second in Training Level Test 4. Western Prinz was bred by Dr. Betsy Smith and Gunnar Lund (MD).
Western Prinz won Training Level Test 4 with a score of 71.8 at the Morven Park Show in late July. He has now qualified for the BLM and ABIG Regional Championships.
Flyby (Werther/ Dividende [Domingo]) was 2nd in Training Level Test 2 at the Dressage at Lexington VA Show with a score of 62.692%. He was ridden by his owner Robin Rich. Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll bred the handsome chestnut gelding.
Wishes Granted (Wolkenstein II/ Dividende [Domingo]) achieved the highest training level score of the Dessage at Lexington VA Show with a 72.5% in Training Level Test 3. The talented chestnut mare also placed 2nd in Training level Test 4 with 66.923%. She was ridden by Rebecca Vick and is owned by Bill Clements, and was bred by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll.
Flyby (Werther/ Dividende [Domingo]) continues to win in dressage. At the Pinehurst Fall Dressage Show, he won the Training Level Test 4 with a score of 65.45% with owner/rider Robin Rich. Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll bred the chestnut gelding.
Wolkendame (Wolkentanz/ Lady Ivorson xx) won Training Level classes at the Eden Farm Dressage Show (OR). "Princess" was ridden by USDF Region 6 Young Rider Team member, Josh Davies. The beautiful dark bay mare was bred by Marleen and Tom Dierkes (OR).
In Hand:
Loreli, Marilyn Fawley's Londonderry filly out of SPS Whoopy was Reserve Champion Filly at the VADA/NOVA Show in Virginia with a score of 80.5%, and qualified for the Cosequin USDF Championships at Dressage at Devon. The judges commented on her wonderful conformation, in particular her beautiful, feminine head and long neck.
Renowned Victory (Rotspon/ Victory
at Concord [Egmont]) won her Fillies of 2003 Class at Dressage at Lexington VA
with the outstanding score of 82.9, second highest score in-hand for the entire
show. The beautiful black filly was bred by Sarah Needham (VA).
Warcloud (Wolkentanz/ EM Ballonne [Bolero]) won the Colts/Gelding Championship at the USDF Cosequin Breeders Championship for Northern California the same weekend he was provisionally licensed as a Hanoverian stallion! Cloudy was bred by Marsha Anderson (CA).
Raquel Welch (Rotspon/ Wakajama [Weltburger]) won the Two-Year-Old Fillies Class at the Dressage at Lexington VA Show. The stunning chestnut filly was bred by Deborah Stone (AL).
Wraven (Weltmeyer/ EM Femme Fatale [Wertherson]) was 2nd in her Fillies of 2003 Class at PVDA in her first time off the farm. The elegant dark bay filly impressed the judges with her outstanding walk, trot and winning personality. She was bred by Dr. Betsy Smith and Gunnar Lund (MD).
Willow Rose (Weltmeyer/ EM Femme Fatale [Wertherson]) was Reserve Filly Champion at Dressage at Lexington VA, and qualified for the Dressage at Devon Regional Championship Finals. The already accomplished gray filly was bred by Dr. Betsy Smith and Gunnar Lund (MD).
Laurel (Londonderry/ EM Winterset [Weltmeyer]) was Filly Champion and Young Horse Reserve Champion at the NCDCTA Sport Horse Breeding Show on Labor Day. The spectacular chestnut filly now qualifies for the East Coast Cosequin Championships at Devon. Laurel was bred by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll (NC).
Hanoverian State Stud Stallions
Hanoverian State Stud stallions were well represented at the Free-Jumping Program in Verden. Enjoy (Escudo/Werther) won a 3-year olds class with an 8.5 for free-jumping ability with a final score of 25.8. Go On (Graf Grannus/Werther) won the 2nd 3-year olds class with an 8.5 for free-jumping ability with a final score of 24.3, and Skywalker (Stakkato/Athletico) won the 3rd class with a score of 10 for free-jumping ability and an overall score of 27.2. In the two 4-year olds classes, Grace (Graf Top/Grafenburg) won one class with a 9.5 for free-jumping ability and 26.9 final score. The other class was won by a Graf Remus/Servus daughter with a 10 for free-jumping ability and a 27.3 final score.
In the Hanoverian Jumper breeding program Contendro is the most requested stallion with 148 breedings. Stakkato is in 2nd place with 70 breedings. Graf Top and Laptop each had 10 mares approved to the program.
Klosterhof Medingen Stallions
DeNiro (Donnerhall/Akzent) was second at Intermediare II and 3rd in the short Grand Prix at the Brauschweig Show.
The Champion Foal at the Hanoverian Young Horse Championships in Verden Germany was a stunning black filly by Worldly out of a Laptop Mare. Second was a colt by Furst Heinrich out of a Compliment mare. Furst Heinrich (Florestan/Donnerhall) was 5 year old Dressage Champion, and Poetin 2 (Sandro Hit/Brentano II) was 6 year old Dressage Champion. Saint Amour (Stakkato/Sherlock Holmes) was 4 year old Jumping Champion, Chichila (Calido/Matcho) was 5 year old Jumping Champion, and SPS Charming Harmony (Calido/Akzent) was 6 year old Jumping Champion.
German Riding Horse Championships: Rusty (Rubenstein/Weltmeyer) was Champion of the 3 year old Stallions; Walk of Fame (Weltmeyer/Carbid) was Reserve Champion of the 3 year-old Mares and Geldings; Bon Jovi (Brentano/Weltmeyer) won the 4 year-old Mares and Geldings Championship with Don Frederica (Donnerhall/Consul) as Reserve. Dynamico (Don Primero/Weltmeyer) was 5 year old Dressage Champion with Baroncelli (Bergamon/Matcho) as Reserve Champion. Worldly (Weltmeyer/Brentano II) won Bronze in the 6 year old Dressage Championship. El Paso (Escudo/Werther) won the 5 year old Jumping Championship.
The October Hanoverian Stallion Licensing in Verden Germany, the champion stallion was Liberty Gold, an elegant chestnut son of Londonderry out of a Weltmeyer mother. Reserve Champion was DeJaniero, a uphill moving dark bay son of DeNiro, and out of a Weltmeyer mare. DeJaniero was purchased by the Hanoverian State Stud. Second Reserve was won by Locksby, also by Londonderry and out of a Weltmeyer mare. Other Premium Stallions the top priced stallion, Rosentanz by Rohdiamant out of a Sao Paulo mare who sold for 200,000 Euro to Denmark, Worthington (Waterford/Werther) bought by The Hanoverian State Stud, A Rotspon son from a Brentano/Weltmeyer mother, a Weserstar colt from a Warkant/Graphit mother, a colt by Lauries Crusader/Argentan, Dinecos (DeNiro/Eiger I) and the best jumper by Stakkato out of a Werther mare. The top-priced stallion was by Rohdiamant out of a Sao Paulo mare, who sole for 200,000 Euro.
The Champion of the 2003 11 month Stallion Performance Test was For Edition, a bay by Forsyth out of a Leggiero mare. For Edition scored 147.8 overall with 132.84 for dressage and 134.16 for jumping. Reserve Champion was RePrimeur by Rotspon out of a Wolkenstein II mare with an overall score of 139.03 with 149.82 (1) for dressage and 101.1 for jumping. Third was Doyen (Don Juan/Donaumonarch) (124.5) 113.97 dressage, 126 jumping; fourth was Toronto (Now or Never/ Belisar) 123.68 overall with 103.05 dressage and 135.6 (1) jumping. 5th was Eibisch (Escudo/ Calypso II) 123.11; 6th Deserteur (Donnerhall/For Pleasure) 120.41; 7th Wishing Luck (Windhauch xx/ Fabriano) 113.69; 8th Escular II (Escudo/ Singular Joter) 111/34; 9th Laocoon (Lancier/ Wanderk–nig) 111.25; 10 White Face (Wolkenstein II/ Matcho) 107.82.
2004 Hanoverian Stallion of the Year
Brentano II (Bolero/Glocke [Grande]) was named Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 2004 at the Hanoverian Stallion Licensing in Verden Germany. Brentano II is famous, of course, for siring Brentina, ridden by Debbie MacDonald, and owned by Peggy and Perry Thomas (ID). Brentina won the 2003 World Cup in Dressage, was USDF 2000 Horse of the Year, Gold Medal Winner at the 2000 Pan Am Games, and too many other championships and honors to mention. Brentina's full brother, Barclay, is now competing successfully in Europe at the Grand Prix level.
