New Foals, Under Saddle, In-Hand Classes, Breed Inspections,
Amanda Gordon welcomed a beautiful strong healthy chestnut Wolkenstein II filly from her Feiner Stern mare, Feldfeine on March 21 in NC. Betty Karl's Picard mare, Picsnabel, foaled a black colt 4 April. The colt is very tall, compact, vigorous and with great legs. Closet Dancer produced a gorgeous bay Weltmeyer colt for Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll April 17 in NC. The colt has a super shoulder, beautiful topline, strong hindquarters, great neck, beautiful face - perfect! He is also very agile and light on his feet - another dancer! A second beautiful Weltmeyer colt was born in Oregon to Sue Ramey's AHS approved thoroughbred mare, Born to Shop xx. The vigorous chestnut joins his yearling full brother. Kathleen Mobley's Elite Weltmeyer, Welterbin, foaled a spectacular black Rotspon colt, which she named Rotwelt. Rotwelt is very friendly with a blaze and 2 white hind socks.
Favre (Walldorf) delighted her owner, Mary Messinger, with a chestnut colt by Fabriano, named Full Scoop Sunday April 21. "Scoop" has a big shoulder and lots of chrome, including an ice cream scoop shaped marking on his face. Glee delivered her second Laptop foal, a beautiful bay filly for Marsha Anderson in California. D'Janna produced a big, strapping bay colt by Grand Cru for Sherry Musgrove in California April 30.
May foals include a beautiful bay Weltmeyer filly from Dr. Steve and Bettie Carrolls Domingo mare, Dom Perignom. Laura Wharton's Trakehner mare, Famosa (Insteruff) foaled our first Latimer baby, a dark bay filly with a large star and ermine hind socks. The filly looks very much like her sire in frame, loin connection and refinement. She is very friendly - probably going to inherit her sire's outstanding rideability. Maggi Clark's Hanoverian mare, Mirroirs (Maurice) foaled an exquisite bay Caprimond filly, Ciao Bella, May 9. Bella has that dishy Caprimond head and is full of energy. She leads her mother on a merry chase! Wakajama (Weltburger), Deborah Stone's lovely mare, foaled a chestnut Brentano filly. A new little Brentina! Damenwahl by Dueker foaled a handsome bay Rotspon colt with 4 socks, a star and a small snip for Sue Ramey in Oregon May 11. "Definitely a cross we will repeat." according to Sue. Gigi foaled a second bay Laptop filly for Marsha Anderson in California May 19. Marsha says both fillies have beautiful heads, great legs and lots of animation and movement. Dr. Barb Crabbe's wonderful Grande mare, Grandezza, foaled a big, correct "paint" colt. Lindberg looks like he's going to be dark chocolate chestnut like his mother, but with a white face - the white extends around his chin back up to the throat latch, and 4 tall stockings with lines all the way up to his belly on the back. He's great - and you won't be able to miss him in the dressage arena! Jimmy Brown's Apella foaled a gorgeous chestnut colt with a beautiful face and neck, tremendous pizzazz, and wonderful temperament. Wichita presented her delighted owner, Kathy Meigs (TN) with her third fabulous Wolkentanz colt on May 24. Kathy says "This baby just takes our breath away. He is a tall, leggy chestnut with a full blaze and two matching stockings. His overstride at the walk is at least a foot and a half. His trot and canter are lovely and his temperament is incredible. He is so friendly and smart. He has the same beautiful head and eye of our first baby, and what a rear end!"
Winward, our first Woronow foal, led off the month of June on the 4th. The handsome, outgoing black colt is out of Oakley by Ostwind. Buzz was bred by Cindy King of Oregon. Mary Clemens announced the birth of Wolkemein, a chocolate bay filly by Wolkenstein II and our of the FEI dressage mare, Prairie Song on 7 June. Hania Curiel was the breeder of the filly. Mary purchased Prairie Song in foal. Kathryn Howard's mare Winesse E produced a beautiful big Grand Cru filly for her June 8. Columbia by Cor de la Bryere thrilled her owners, Dr. Noah and Christine Cohen in Texas 9 June with her second fabulous Fabriano foal - and this time it's a filly! Christine says: "She's a bay with a large star, one sock on the left hind. She is very refined and elegant. She has a lovely head and expression, very similar to Fais Gaffe (her brother) in appearance. She is physically strong, probably the most vigorous foal we have had yet." Holli Lyons announced the birth of a chestnut Werther filly out of her thoroughbred mare, Mere Scintilla 9 June. The filly has a lovely blaze and 4 white socks - perfect! Suzanne Thrasher's Weyden mare, Reydena, produced a handsome chestnut colt 9 June by Wolkenstein II. Suzanne says the colt is a stunning mover with lots of suspension, a huge kind eye and the best temperament.
Carmichel, a chestnut colt with a perfect blaze and 4 tall stockings by Caprimond was born to Classically-Sired Wiegenlied (Werther) at Maggi Clark's Back O'Beyond Farm in Washington 7 July. Maggi says Hogey has perfect legs, and is tall, very strong, agile and already friendly and easy to handle. Karen Batcheller's Bolero mare, EM Bewitched, foaled another handsome Weltmeyer colt, full brother to the accomplished Welttanzer, July 14. The strapping chestnut colt is energetic and has all the spring, expression and suspension of his talented parents.
Our last foal for 2002 was a gorgeous Rabino filly born to Trisha Kiefer's mare in Colorado late in November.
Wolkentana (Wolkentanz/ Dom Perignom) bred by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll is having a very successful competition season in Florida this year. The lovely 4 year old filly achieved a 73% for Training Level Test 3 at the Dressage at Equestrian Estates Easter weekend, which earned her High Score for the entire show. Wolkentana is owned by Dorothy Chappell and ridden by Jessie Steiner.
Wolkenspring (Wolkenstein II/ Dividende), adds to her considerable accomplishments (Elite-Mare Candidate, Champion In-Hand, etc) under saddle. At the April 6 and 7 Dressage at Latta competing at Training Level Test 3 and First Level Test 1, Wolkenspring garnered 3 firsts and 1 second with scores of 67-73%. In the process she qualified for the BLM Championships at Training Level. Wolkenspring is owned and was bred by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll. Wolkenspring placed 2nd in both her first level tests in a show April 27 and 28 in North Carolina. At the Capital Classic Dressage Show in Raleigh NC May 31-June 2, Wolkenspring won a USDF qualifier at Training Lever with a 70.8% score! She placed second in both her First Level classes. At the Lexington NC Dressage Show Wolkenspring got 70.4% and second place in Training Level Test 4, which qualifies her for the regional USDF Championships. Wolkenspring also got 65% in First Level Test 3, qualifying her for the BLM Championships at First Level. Bettie Carroll says the mare improves with each show!
Foreigner (Werther/ Brown Sugar xx) bred by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll and owned and shown by Bailey Cook is successfully competing in dressage. He won a Training Level Class April 27 and 28, and was High-Score at a show earlier in the year. At the Capital Classic Dressage Show in Raleigh NC May 31-June 2, Foreigner was second in the USDF qualifier at Training Level with a score of 70.4%!
Western Prince (Weltmeyer/ EM Femme Fatale), a 1999 black colt bred and owned by Dr. Gunnar Lund and Betsy Smith of Maryland was Young Horse Champion at the VADA NOVA Breed Show in Culpepper. Western Prince also came in second in Dressage Suitability and Stallions under Saddle. He was first in the Materiale Class for 3-year old Colts. As a weanling, Western Prince won his class at Dressage at Devon. Obviously, he is fulfilling the promise seen in him as a foal. Current pictures can be seen at www.hallschoice.com..
Flyby (Werther/ Dividende), had a great first show at Dressage at Lexington NC. He was fourth in a Training Level Test on the first day and went out with much more confidence on day two to place second in Training Level Test 2 with 68%. Flyby was ridden by Susan Hopkins, is owned by Robin Rich and was bred by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll.
Fuerst von Feuer (Werther/ Anja), a 1993 chestnut gelding owned by Maplewood Farm bred by Michele McFadden, and ridden by Michelle Green celebrated his return to the dressage arena with two wins at 3rd Level. Fratz scored 71.9% in Third Level Test 1 and 66.57% in Third Level Test 2. He garnered second place in both of his Second Level Tests, 68.3% in Second Level Test 3 and 70.23% in Second Level Test 4.
New Media Star: Wolkentana (Wolkentanz/Dom Perignom) bred by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll is the star of an article on Dressage Makeovers in the October 2002 issue of Practical Horseman with her owner Jessie Steiner. We should all look so good!
Wolkenspring (Wolkenstein II/ Dividende [Domingo]) won 4th place at the USDF Region 1 Finals at Training Level despite torrential downpours which caused the classes to move indoors. Wolkenspring was bred and is owned by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll (NC).
Lindberg (Lanthan/ Grandezza [Grande]) was called back as one of the 3 top foals at the Oregon AHS Inspection, July 18. Judges commented that the dark chestnut colt inherited the excellent type from his father and movement, soundness and rideability from his wonderful mother. Dr. Barb Crabbe is the owner/breeder of the colorful colt.
Latest Edition (Laptop/ Glee [Gigant]) was the top filly out of 24 at the Glenwood Farms AHS Inspection. The judges said "A jumping pedigree with movement like hers is what we want to see." Marsha Anderson of Hedgerow Farms (CA) is the proud owner/breeder. Marsha's other Laptop filly, Let Sparks Fly, was also called back as one of the top ten fillies. Bettie Karl's Rabino colt out of Picsnabel was called back as one of the top colts.
Wolkefeine (Wolkenstein II/ Feldfeine [Feiner Stern]) was top filly at the Stonecrop NC AHS Inspection. The judges said she was "just beautiful, with everything flowing together." Amanda Gordon is the proud owner/breeder of the lovely filly.
Wieta
(Wolkenstein II/ Lilith [Lauries Crusador xx]) was Champion of the
Hanoverian Mare Performance Test at Leesburg, VA November 2, 2002, giving her
the title "Hanoverian Elite Mare".
"Twiggy" was bred by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll. She is in
foal to Escudo I for 2003.
Weltlan (Weltmeyer/ Dom Perignom) was second in the Fillies of 2002 class at Dressage at Lexington NC with a score of 80%!, with scores of 8.5 for conformation, trot and overall impression. Weltlan went on to win the large Hanoverian class with an 82%!! Weltlan's owner/breeder is Sullivan Farms (Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll.
Robinson Crusoe (Rotspon/ EM Flair) won the 2-Year Old Colts and Geldings Class and the Hanoverian class at the Lake Oswego (OR) Dressage Show August 2. Crusoe is bred and owned by Anne Schmidt and Martha Moody.
Dr. Betsy Smith and Gunnar Lund (MD) took top honors at the Morven Park Sport Horse Breed Show with 3 yearlings out of Femme Fatale [Wertherson]. All are embryo transfer foals. Willow Rose (by Weltmeyer) was Grand Champion of the Show, after winning Young Horse Champion, Filly Champion and the Yearling Filly and Hanoverian Classes! The impressive gray filly charmed the judges and "spectators with her striking looks, eye-catching movement and mature poise" according to Bonnie Barr-Briggs in the Chronicle of the Horse. Betsy says "She's a real showgirl. She loves to be in the ring." Winnetka (by Wolkenstein II) was Reserve Champion Filly, and second to Willow Rose in the Yearling Fillies Class. Waldemar, an elegant dark brown colt won his Yearling Colt class and was Reserve Champion Colt/Gelding. The trio has also achieved success at the Menfelt, Culpepper and PVDA Shows earlier in the summer, and have qualified for the finals at Dressage at Devon to be held in September.
Forever Mein (Werther/ EM Liebchen Mein [Largo]) took 2nd in 2 classes at the Pacific Equestrian Center Breeders Classic in California August24-25.. The 2-year old filly impressed the judges with her correct conformation, wonderful movement ("great trot!") and excellent manners. Fly was bred and is owned by Lisa Ramirez.
Remy Martin (Rotspon/ Dom Perignom [Domingo]) won her Yearling Fillies Class at the Raleigh NC Breed Show with an 8.5 for her walk from Hilda Gurney. Weltlan (Weltmeyer/ Dom Perignom [Domingo]) her half sister came in 2nd in the Fillies of 2002 Class. The fillies are owned and were bred by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll.
Classically-Sired horses did well at Dressage at Devon. Dr. Betsy Smith and Gunnar Lund's (MD) group of embryo-transfer foals from their Elite Hanoverian Mare, Femme Fatale, were well represented. Western Prince (by Weltmeyer) was 4th in the 3-Year Old Colts and Geldings Materiale Class, and 10th in the USDF Colt Championship. Willow Rose (by Weltmeyer) was 4th in the Hanoverians 2-Year Olds and Under, 6th in the USDF Filly Championship and 2nd in her Yearling Fillies Class. Winnetka (by Wolkenstein II) was 5th in the USDF Filly Championship and 10th in the Yearling Fillies Class. Waldemar (by Weltmeyer) was 7th in the USDF Colt Championship. Fortune Hunter (Fabriano/ Winter Morning [Ramiro's Bube]) came in 5th in the very competitive Yearling Colts Class with a 77.4% score. Hunter is owned and was bred by Dr. Laurie Cameron (NJ)
At the S–gel Tourneyment for Licensed Warmblood Stallions stallions from the Hanoverian State Stud performed very well. Weltano came in second in basic dressage with Don Cavallo third. In a more advanced dressage class Weltano was 5th and Don Cavallo 7th. All were ridden by Wolfhard Witte. In the basic jumping class El Bundy was first and LePrimeur second. In the next class As di Villagana took third. In the third class As di Villagana again took third and For Feeling got 5th. For Feeling came in second in the most advanced class with As di Villagana 6th. All ridden by Joachim Winter.
Etrusco was second in the Youngster Challenge Cup at the 2002 Wiesbaden Tournament. San Brasil is winning consistently in jumping at the novice and elementary levels. LePrimeur has placed 1st at medium level jumping classes, and 2nd at elementary class. As di Villagana and For Feeling have qualified for the Hanoverian Jumping Horse Championships at Dobrock as six year olds. Embassy, San Brasil and LePrimeur have qualified as five year olds; and Provider, El Bundy and Etrusco as four year olds.
Don Frederico is winning elementary level dressage classes.
For Feeling has won the Championship for 6-year old Hanoverian jumpers at Dobrock. Le Primeur was Champion 5-year old Hanoverian jumper.
Sad news from the Hanoverian State Stud - Lanthan has died. The elegant black stallion was known as a producer of excellent dressage horses, as well as good jumpers. His offspring were noted as beautiful with elastic movements and great rideability. We certainly saw these qualities in our Classically-Sired Lanthan horses. In 1999 Lanthan held the highest breeding value for all stallions of his age group.
Earl, a black son of Escudo I and out of a Lanthan/Aragon mare won the 2002 11 Month Stallion Performance Test with a score of 143.91, scoring 139.93 in dressage (2) and 127.33 in jumping (3). Stolzenberg by Stakkato was Reserve Champion scoring 132.26 - 114.6 in dressage (10) and 141.88 (1) in jumping. It is the second year in a row that an EscudoI son has won the Stallion Performance Test. El Bundy (Escudo/Rebel Z) won in 2001. The winner in dressage was Robespierre (Rosentau/Warkant/Eiger I). His overall score was 128.88 (4), and dressage score was 141.3, he scored 102.16 (23) in jumping. Third overall was Limonit (Lancier/Weltadel/Salvano). His scores were 130.1 overall, 135.1 (3) in dressage and 112.72 (13) in jumping.
An elegant black son of Hohenstein and out of a Donnerhall mare was Champion of the 2002 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing. He was purchased by Doug and Louise Leatherdale of MN. The following stallions received "Premium" status at the 2000 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing 23-26 October: Windhauch xx/ Fabriano/Wendelin; Graf Top/Drosselklang II/ Akzent II; Hohenstein/Donnerhall/Feiner Stern; Londonderry/Airport/Apertif; Londonderry/Blue Grenadier xx/Weissenburg; Longchamp/Wenzel I/Lateran; Regazonni/Donnerhall/Pik K–nig; Rubinstein I/Weltmeyer/Shogun xx; Welser/World Cup I/Bleep xx; and Wolkenstein II/Matcho/Tannenberg.
Warkant (World Cup I/Grandel [Grande]) was named 2002 Hanoverian Stallion of the Year at the 2002 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing in Verden Germany. Sire of many impressive dressage champions such as Wakajama, German Federal Champion Dressage Horse, Wanessa, 1991 German Federal Champion Riding Horse, and Wansuela Suerte, one of Germany's top Grand Prix dressage competitors.
At the 2002 Trakehner Stallion Licensing, Hohenstein was named 2002 Trakehner Stallion of the Year. Hohenstein's sire, Caprimond was 1998 Trakehner Stallion of the Year. Good Family!! Hibiskus by Latimer out of a Hohenstein mare was Reserve Champion.
Ratje-Niebuhr Show: The winner of the Mare Families at the prestigious Ratje Niebuhr Show in August was the Bolero/Grossf¸rst mare Bodenf¸rst with her Weltmeyer daughter Weltina, and her Rosentau daughter, Rose Dream (who also recieved the 1a prize in her 2-year old Fillies Class). A 2-year old black Rotspon filly out of a Lauries Crusador mare won the Young Mare (2-3 year olds) Championship with a 10 for type and a 10 for her trot. Reserve Champion was Waitaki (Weltmeyer/ Lauries Crusador xx). SPS Fenjala (Fabriano/ Prince Orac xx) won the Middle Age Mare (4-6 year olds) Championship. SPS Gloria (Graf Grannus/ Godewind) was Reserve Champion. SPS Wiami (Weltmeyer/ Bolero) was Champion Older Mare, and Carmina Burana (Carbid/ Gelria) was Reserve. A colt by Embassy and out of a Fabriano mare was Champion Foal. Reserve went to a For Feeling/ Escudo colt.
German National Mare Show: Weltmeyer mares proved their superb qualities at the German National Mare Show. Waitaki out of a Lauries Crusador xx mare was Champion of the 3-4 Year Old Broodmares and 3 Year Old Champion, and SPS Weltina out of a Bolero mare was 5-8 Year Old Broodmare, and SPS Wicke out of a Grenadier mare was 11-15 Year Old Champion, and Champion Family Group of Mother with 2 daughters (SPA Harmonie (Hohenstein) and SPA Dynastie (DeNiro0), and 5-7 Year Old Mare Champion. Bodenf¸rsten (Bolero/Grossf¸rst) with her daughter Weltina and granddaughter Rose Dream by Rosentau was Reserve Champion Mare Family. Winona (Wolkentanz/Wenzel) was Champion 3 Year Old Dressage Mare. SPA Escada (Escudo/Calypso II) was 4-Year Old Dressage Champion. SPA Gloria (Graf Grannus/Godewind) was 4 Year Old Jumper Champion, and SPA Wie Platine (Wolkenstein II/Matcho AA) was 4 Year Old Overall Champion. SPA Fenjala (Fabriano/Prince Orac xx) was Champion 5-7 Year Old Mare, Mona Lisa (Metternich/Absinth) was Reserve Champion. SPS Carmina Burana (Carbid/Gelria) was Reserve Champion 5-7 Year Old Mare.
Bundeschampionate (German National Riding Horse Championships): Wanesco (Weltmeyer/ Werther) was Champion 6-Year Old Dressage Horse. Wildest Dream (Wolkenstein II/ Castro) was Reserve Champion.
