Wolkenspring (Wolkenstein II / Dividende), bred and owned by Dr. Steve and Bettie Carroll, was Champion Filly at Dressage at Raleigh North Carolina. Earlier Wolkenspring won her Two-Year Old Fillies class at Dressage at Lexington North Carolina and was Reserve Filly Champion. Wianna (Wolkenstein II-Dom Perignom) won the Weanling Fillies class for the Carrolls.   Betsy Smith's fabulous dark bay Weltmeyer colt, Welttanzer (out of her EM Femme Fatale [Wertherson]) won the 1999 Colts class at Dressage at Devon with a score of 80!

1999 Hanoverian Stallion of the Year

Eiger I is 1999 Hanoverian Stallion of the Year!  Famous for siring both jumping and dressage performance horses, Eiger I follows his son, Espri (1995 Hanoverian Stallion of the Year) to this great honor.  Cindy King and Sue Ramey have an Eiger I colt, E.J., this year from their mare, Damenwahl.  Maggi Clark has a 3 year old Eiger I mare, Einzig, from her Classically-Sired Werther mare, Wiegenlied.

Werther USDF Ranked

Werther, sire of many Classically-Sired performance horses, ranks #5 on the latest (1999) Top Ten USDF Leading Sires list, the top-ranked, foreign-based stallion on the list.  Werther had 23 offspring competing in USDF competitions in 1999.  The top stallion is Iron Spring Farm's Dutch stallion, Roemer.

German Federal Riding Horse Championships

Londonderry won the Four-Year Old Stallion Riding Horse Championship.  He was named Champion Young Hanoverian Stallion earlier in the year.  Wildest Dream (Wolkenstein II/Castro) was Three-Year Old Mares and Geldings Riding Horse Champion.

Louis-Wiegels Mare Show

At the 1999 Louis-Wiegels Show in Germany (Germany's National Mare Show) St.Pr.St. Wildflower (Wolkenstein II /Cavalier) was Champion of the Young (2 and 3 year old) Filly Group. Reserve Champion was a two-year old Fabriano/Prince Orac xx daughter. Champion of the Middle-Aged (4-7 year olds) Mares was St.Pr.St. Carmina Burana (Carbid/Gelria). Reserve Champion was St.Pr.St.Weline P (Wanderer/Garibaldi II). St.Pr.St.Walt Lady (Walt Disney/Lemon xx) was Champion of the 7 and 8 year old Mares. St.Pr.St.Larissa (Lanthan/Einblick) was Reserve Champion of the Older Mare (9 years and up) class. Sixteen year old St.Pr.St. Larina (Lemon xx/Seefischer) with her two Walt Disney daughters were Champion Mare Family.

At the Mare Performance Test during the afternoon of the Louis Weigels Show St.Pr.St. Gina (Grand Cru/Wendehals) received the highest score, 8.5.

Note: St.Pr.St. denotes German States Premium Mare, a coveted status for German Hanoverian mares comparable to American Hanoverian Elite Mares (EM) which must achieve at least a '7' on their inspection scores, and pass a Mare's Performance Test with a score of at least '7'. Elite and States Premium Mares must produce a foal to complete the requirements - thus encouraging top quality mares to produce foals which will improve the Hanoverian breed.

1999 Stallion Performance Test

Waterford (Wolkenstein II/Matcho) won the 1999 Stallion Performance Test with the amazing score of 149.94 (154.48 for dressage).  Frenchman (Falkland/Weltmeyer) came in second with 136.52, and Waikiki (Weltmeyer/Bolero) was right behind him with 136.0.

1999 Stallions Lost

The Hanoverian State Stud lost two of its most distinguished and important stallions in 1999.  Just weeks after being named "Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 1999", Eiger I died.  Eiger I was the sire of "Hanoverian Stallion of the Year", Espri, as well as many accomplished performance horses in both dressage and jumping, and excellent mares.  In December 1999 "Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 1996"  World Cup I was lost.  World Cup I is the sire of "Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 1998" Weltmeyer, and Walt Disney I and II and Warkant, as well as many fine performance horses.
